Day 279 (Sat Oct 7th)

I worked all day yesterday… literally until 2 am… and didn’t get any art done!!! The coming week will be different. I was disappointed in myself but I’m just not going to worry about the TWO DAYS I have missed this week 😦

In the car on the way to a wedding I pencil sketched two future ink drawings… for inktober days 6 and 7, “sword” and “shy”… (copied from photos I googled… not my original ideas):

Day 275 (b) Tues Oct 3… granddaughter art

My 5 year old granddaughter, Ellis, is an artist, too. We worked on this together but she did the hard parts. It’s her daddy and little brother at the pumpkin patch last Sunday.

I did my own version, as well, after I practiced on hers:

I love his little face!

Day 274 (Mon Oct 2) Inktober day 2

More ink! Today I came home to find my artsnacks box had arrived. Yay!!!! (My monthly subscription box) All ink stuff of course, for Inktober. (see previous blog) So of course, lacking ideas of my own, I drew the items. Some pretty fun tools were included!! I am a pen fanatic, so this one is right up my alley.

My special Inktober sketchbook (I’ve been waiting all year to order this! 🙂 Each day has a prompt, so I wrote them out, thinking maybe I’d try them.

I didn’t worry about the prompt yesterday so today gave them both a quick shot.

Day 273 (Sun Oct 1) Inktober!! Day 1

Well, it is day one of an art challenge called Inktober, started in 2009 by artist Jake Parker. The point of the challenge is to work a little bit every day, consistently, and improve your skill. (Sound familiar???!!) But specifically, in ink. Rules:

Make a drawing in ink

post it online

hashtag with inktober and inktober 2017

repeat every day of october

Some of the participants are wicked good already. But I’m only in competition with myself, right?

We picked pumpkins today with the grandkids:

Day 270, 271 (Thurs Fri 9/28 and 9/29) watercolor

I really miss painting, but just haven’t made the time for it lately, so I spent three brief periods the past few days practicing leaves and colors. The finished painting is a hideous mess of a practice page, but I post it confidently because I learned several things about the colors and mixing and the overall process, so I feel good about the time spent on it! (not as good as if I liked the picture but still really good… advancing in knowledge is a good feeling. It feels like time invested instead of wasted.) Plus… it was fun and relaxing to play with color. I will try more leaves.

The next 6 weeks will be busy as we open a new business… I’m not going to beat myself up over missing a few days in my challenge, if I am too tired or busy, but I’m also not going to allow myself to use it as an excuse to just give up.

Day 269 (Wed Sept 26) still on the leaves

I sketched in another leaf or two, then decided to use real frisket/masking fluid instead of my pen. (I LOVE my pen, but I applied it too thinly on the last one and couldn’t remove it all) Then spent 30 minutes searching for the bottle. Now have applied but need to wait for it to dry. And… I am too tired to do more.
