Day 261 (Tues Sept 19) more people sketching

A quick sketch before my head hits the pillow… I REALLY just want to nod off, but… ONLY BECAUSE I’m accountable through this blog… I’m going to at least try something quick. I liked watching this dude walking down the street, huge bouquet in one hand, staring at his phone the whole time. He was like something out of a movie.

Day 260 (Mon Sept 18) dog walking

In Annapolis, I surreptitiously took a lot of shots of people that looked interesting to me. Not in a creepy way. Although it sounds like it now. This lady was on a corner across the street from us. Emmett was mesmerized by her companions. And I by her easy way of walking and the little slouch she had. She looked very urban to me.

Days 258 and 259 (Sat and Sun Sept 16 and 17) Annapolis, MD sketches

Annapolis is full of beautiful old architecture, and interesting people, including lots of soldiers from the Naval Academy. Yeah, my navy kid is a little short on top, but my book is angled slightly as well, so it may not be as bad as it looks. I love this long skinny building. It reminds me of London.

I brought my paints, but didn’t make time for them. It was all I could do to sketch something out before bed. I really should be painting a lot this month because next month is “Inktober” and I had hoped to play with ink all month. There’s a lot going on with work for the next two months… I’d hate for my project to fizzle out the last two months, and I don’t plan to stop, but I’m thinking my projects each day will be very quick. I’d like to end the (art) year with a bang, not a whimper, but even a whimper is still a noise, right?

Day 257 (Fri Sept 15) sketch of the birthday boy

So it’s after 1am and I had a long (not difficult, but long) day… after a fun first birthday party for the grandson, I came home to THIS… (only it was all strewn across the floor. And wet with newfie slobber)

One of my first “good” sketchbooks (see the black torn cover and nicely gnawed pages? I really loved that one) and a few favorite paintings torn up by my loving and faithful puppy.  😦 My fault for leaving them out, but I thought they were safe up on the 4 foot tall counter. My favorite flower painting, too, which I should have framed, I guess, instead of taking it up to have a couple prints made. My day was work, then party, this traumatic discovery, hours more work at the computer (the kind this is never properly accomplished) And now I’m exhausted and don’t feel like creating anything. A quick sketch of the birthday boy is all I felt up to, and it does look like a child, but doesn’t look like HIM. Well at least I did SOMETHING and Tomorrow is Another Day! Maybe in the morning I can tell what’s not quite accurate about it.

Day 256 (Wed Sept 13) still sketching

That’s it so far… only one! Another fan (or two) at the football game Friday night. Her head’s a little small, but I’m happy with the pair. Still using my Uniball Micro Deluxe .5 pen, black ink, Follow this link and go to More Buying Choices… I found a three pack for $4.80, shipping included! I’m ordering right NOW. This price may not last. I love using this pen for sketching on the go.

Day 255 (Tues Sept 12) more football sketches

Just practice in sketching figures. I do think I’m better than I was in January. I took a lot of photos of the band. I was in the marching band in high school. We really STUNK, but it still is a good memory.

Trombonists waiting beside the field for their first half time show of the season…

Football players and a cheerleader. I really like the boy with the camera…

Day 252 (Sat Sept 9) Determination

Okay yesterday I did not post. I was busy all day AND all evening with work… but I did begin a new treehouse ATC (or two) before midnight struck on the clock. And today I am finishing them. However… I don’t wish to post them yet, because the recipient will see them. And I feel like at least SOMETHING in her package should be a surprise. And I don’t want to just skip another post. So today I will post a copy of an entry that I did last year for a journal partner, who also did one for me. The assignment was to choose a quote from a list we had agreed upon, and illustrate it somehow.

It reminds me that I miss doing these! (both the journals, and the pen art) The lettering was quickly and imperfectly scribbled, but I can’t remember why I didn’t take the time to do it right… maybe I have just raised the bar that much for myself this year? I think I may have copied (or mostly copied) a famous woodcut for this. I was very into Rene Quillivic at the time and drew several of his pieces of art. (Some people think that’s wrong, but I think that’s a good way to develop skills.)
