A 365 day art project… one drawing a day

11:55pm… I almost missed today’s art!
I hate to post something unfinished. But… I’m happy with my sketch. I’ve drawn my koi fish, and hopefully will get them painted tomorrow or Sunday. No more time today! Well that’s the point of this year I guess… to show myself that even when there are lots of other obligations, I can still make time for art. Or whatever else is important to me.

Whoa. He looks like I squished him. Better in black and white! 🙂

Playing around with green.

Master’s Touch 4×6 watercolor pad 140 lb cold press, staedtler pen, tombow markers, (N65, N95, N45), uniball white pigment pen. On the back I’ll use my postcard stamp and it will be all ready to send on its way!

This is the type of thing I’ve worked on most frequently the past several years. Kind of zentangle-ish… relaxing. I plan to try more of these to put in my Etsy store.

I don’t usually add color, unless I’ve drawn it onto a book page, then I generally add some vague color around the edges, but I might give this one a little watercolor later today. I used the Stillman & Birns mixed media book and Staedtler waterproof pens, pictured. (And the Copic for the border, but then changed my mind.)
With freckles this time. A few extra. So, I took the ruined drawing from yesterday

and (since it was ruined anyway) just played with it. I used very shimmery silver and copper paints found here on Amazon (the popular Gansai Tambi paint set) (These paints, by the way, have really large pans, if the tiny half pans of other paint sets intimidate you the way they did me… and the paint is vivid and beautiful. I like the convenience and brightness of my prima better, but I really enjoy these quite a bit, if you are looking for an affordable fun set and you really don’t care whether they are professional grade or not.) When seen in person the shimmery effect of the paint on her skin, hair, crown, and scales is very fun. The shine isn’t apparent in a still photo. The ink smeared dreadfully when touched with water or purple paint, but the shimmery colors (the set only includes 3 or 4 shimmery colors) didn’t let it run quite as much. Sort of a controlled run. In the end I liked the smeared ink and used it, and I’m really happy with my whole mistake. I think she’s adorable.
