In my last “Artsnacks” package I received two Art Crayons… watercolor crayons!! They are fat and difficult to use for detail, but are also really creamy and fun. Once applied, they don’t smear or feel chalky or waxy, but water can be added for interesting effects. I think these could be really fun on a mixed media journal page.
Here I used watercolor crayons to fill out the background and hair, dipping a wet brush in the crayon to pick up enough to add shading and definition to the face, and highlighted with silver sharpie marker and white gel pen.

Fun and fast for cartooning, too. 🙂 I guess I need a few more colors.

Tomorrow I’ll sketch the same face in pencil.
All I had time to do was color in one of the Ellis-ruling-the-world sketches.

Yep, that’s my granddaughter! She can push herself now, and is very pleased with that!

I really like these.
I am completely unfamiliar with colored pencils. But it turns out, I like them!! I think I’ll need to play around with these more.

Even if you are 4, the last day of school is awesome.

Sennelier paint on khadi paper. The shadows are killing me. But it’s the paint this time.

I have tried and tried to get a good shadow using different colors, it just keeps lifting color away. Best I can do right now is a muddy gray.
