Thursday 2/7/19 Pentel Pigment ink brush pen

I love the pentel pocket brush pen SO MUCH, but “meow meow kapow” on youtube tested this pen and liked it a little better than the pocket pen, so I’m going to try it out. Both are real brush pens, with waterproof ink. I think this one is disposable, and the pocket pen has cartridges. This one is longer, too (if length matters as far as travel or storage)

I love drawing my supplies SO MUCH. I wonder how weird that is? Like, scale of one to ten. Not THAT weird, right? Like maybe just a 2 or 3? Let me know what you like to draw. (Or if you have tried either of these pens… is there a waterproof brush pen you like?)

I used davinci watercolors, but mixed a little white gouache in for the gray.

Pentel Pigment Ink Brush Pen, extra fine, on Amazon here $6.50 right now… I am an Amazon Associate, and a Prime member, and I do most of my shopping on Amazon… I do get a few cents back if you order through a link here, but you still pay the same price… I always suggest you check around (but usually I find my best prices on Amazon). I will always tell you if I’ve found something less expensive elsewhere!

Meow meow kapow’s brush pen comparison (there are two parts)

Thursday 1/17… a new paint trio… MIND BLOWN!!!

Still just writing the weekday name…. I’m so uninspired after I work!

I found this trio suggestion while watching a video on Meow Meow Kapow’s Youtube channel… it was suggested by Kathryn T. These three colors are actually (until now) three of my least favorite tubes!!

Daniel Smith Phthalo Green (blue shade… PG7), Daniel Smith’s Quinacridone Lilac (PR 122), and QoR’s Green Gold (PY 129) … actually DS Rich Green Gold is the suggested color, but also PY 129, and QoR is what I have.

So… here’s the thing… if you mix this GREEN, with this PINK… YOU GET BLUE. Blue, people. BLUE????!! Blue. I felt like god… not in a sacrilegious way, I know I didn’t create blue OUT OF NOTHING, and He did… but I made BLUE out of two other colors!!!! My mind is totally blown. Didn’t our elementary school teachers always tell us yellow and blue make green… red and blue make purple… AND YOU CAN’T MAKE BLUE BECAUSE IT IS PRIMARY!!!!?? Well, this isn’t actually a primary blue. It is a deep dark inky blue. But is clearly and definitely BLUE. Add more lilac and it is a drop-dead-gorgeous purple. It will never be a pale soft blue.

Still, my five year old inner self is completely astonished. I can’t decide if I am totally amazing because, even though I didn’t figure it out, I STILL MADE BLUE!! Or if I’m a complete idiot because I’m 53 years old and didn’t know this already. (and… I’ve had these paints for like a year…)

All those colors inside the Thursday letters came from those three colors. I’m so impressed with myself.

Thanks, Meow Meow Kapow, and Kathryn T, for making my day!!

Day 21, 30×30 direct watercolor challenge: roses

Following a live Jay Lee Youtube demonstration, I came up with these roses today (considerably different, I am afraid, than the lovely blossoms Jay Lee painted!) But I like my version and see where I can improve, too.

Day 20, 30×30 direct watercolor challenge:

Two quick painting lessons from a Jay Lee youtube tutorial:

For the tree leaves, we made foil balls about 2″ in diameter, and brushed paint on them, and dabbed them onto the paper all over the branches. I was supposed to use acrylic paint and dip the foil ball in… next time I may try gouache for this. It was fun… try it!

Painting “Loosely” (Radishes)

This idea came from a video from LazyWonderBrush on YouTube. These radishes used Daniel Smith colors, Green Apatite Genuine (one of my favorites… amazing granulation!), Quinacridone red, carbazole violet, and a little Nickel Azo Yellow. All the Amazon links are there… these are basic colors, very useful, so I linked the larger size tubes because they are such a better deal per ounce. (Oh, there was a bit of Sap Green as well… a beautiful ‘convenience’ color)

Those little dots in the leaves come from the genuine green apatite.

May 2, 2018: Youtube tutorial- beginning watercolor techniques by Makoccino, using QoR mini

Sooo… if you recall, my tape kept tearing my cotton paper. To combat this,  I started reusing it… and apparently I used it once too often, because the paint bled through. Paper didn’t tear, though! 🙂

Makoccino suggests trying this in a journal ( HERE is the link to the tutorial ) … she says sectioning off the page and trying these three wet on wet ideas will help someone having trouble attacking a whole empty page. (It did) My book is small so these strips are very tiny… maybe an inch wide and 4 inches tall. Mine didn’t come out exactly like hers, but I like them, and I really had fun doing them.

I used my QoR mini watercolor pan set (found here at Amazon) again…. I just love those. Like seriously LOVE. I know they are expensive, but I wouldn’t trade them for the world.

I like this evening sky:

My galaxy stinks. But it was fun:

But this sky is where QoR really shines:
