Day 270, 271 (Thurs Fri 9/28 and 9/29) watercolor

I really miss painting, but just haven’t made the time for it lately, so I spent three brief periods the past few days practicing leaves and colors. The finished painting is a hideous mess of a practice page, but I post it confidently because I learned several things about the colors and mixing and the overall process, so I feel good about the time spent on it! (not as good as if I liked the picture but still really good… advancing in knowledge is a good feeling. It feels like time invested instead of wasted.) Plus… it was fun and relaxing to play with color. I will try more leaves.

The next 6 weeks will be busy as we open a new business… I’m not going to beat myself up over missing a few days in my challenge, if I am too tired or busy, but I’m also not going to allow myself to use it as an excuse to just give up.

Day 269 (Wed Sept 26) still on the leaves

I sketched in another leaf or two, then decided to use real frisket/masking fluid instead of my pen. (I LOVE my pen, but I applied it too thinly on the last one and couldn’t remove it all) Then spent 30 minutes searching for the bottle. Now have applied but need to wait for it to dry. And… I am too tired to do more.

Day 267 (Mon Sept 25) watercolor: negative painting

Sooooo…. I certainly haven’t mastered this concept yet. I was trying to follow a tutorial, but there’s a lot that isn’t coming natural to me with this. Still, you can tell it’s leaves.

Day 266 (Sun Sept 24) ATCs

Artist Trading Cards… 2 1/2×3 1/2 inches. Treehouses. The fronts, top and right using daniel smith paints, bottom left using qor…

The backs… one unfinished, the school house uses Jane davenport mermaid watercolor markers (they are really a waterbased color in a waterbrush) Vivid colors, difficult for me to control, and they lift off a bit too easily, but quite fun. I think they’d be great for something larger, especially art journal pages, or calligraphy. The country store uses daniel smith.

Oh, and about halfway through I found this gift from my newfoundland dog dripping off my table right in front of me. I don’t know how I didn’t get slimed. Don’t get a newfie if you can’t handle the Sloober. He’s not allowed in my studio alone, but he snuck in a bit earlier. Obviously. That Sloober would literally be there in a week if I hadn’t removed it… looking like a thick shiny… dried… disgusting hangy thingy… I tried it once just to see. Ugh.
