Day 44: (Monday)a zentangley peacock

I don’t exactly “zentangle“, but I do like to draw these sort of zentangled pictures. We are on a business trip but I won’t let that stall my threesixfive project. (Plus I love my art supplies like they are children. Almost. So brought a bunch with me. A mini travel version of my studio.) I did this project on the plane, on an empty lottery ticket I picked up at Food Lion. I wish I had thought to work the shaded areas into the design. And I thought of a way to work the feathers in better. But I’m needing a pencil on fewer and fewer projects, which feels like improvement.

Day 42: SHOES!!!!!

So here are my new favorite old shoes. I LOVE Calvin and Hobbes SO much.

I will be away for a couple of days, but promise I’ll still be doing some small artsy thing each day. I’ll try to post them, but if I can’t, I’ll catch up Wednesday night. Happy weekend!

Acrylic on canvas… shoe. Feline approved.

Day 38: Artsnacks supply challenge

I received a little monthly subscription package from Art Snacks, and their challenge is to use all of the supplies in a single piece of art and send them a photo. So here’s what I came up with. Included were a nice pencil and charcoal set, a large black permanent marker, like for posters, a red Zig brush pen (water soluble), and two Stabilo pens, in yellow and light blue. I drew another of my anniversary roses and created a Graffiti Rose. Then I tried a sort of comic book look. And THEN, I used the charcoal alone for a little drawing of pomegranates.

I guess really I’m more the still-life-pomegranate type. But… I enjoyed creating the graffiti rose, and I liked the messiness of it. 🙂

Day 37: sketching

Just a quick sketch of a photo from our walk today on the Nolan Trail, looking up through the trees, in a journal I’ll be sending off to a swap-bot friend. Goodbye, sweet Little Tree Sketch! I’ll miss you!

Notebook paper, uniball deluxe micro pen, copic markers N2 and N4.

Day 34: more watercolor practice

I followed two more tutorials… one offered some basic tree hints (which I expected I’d already know, but didn’t. I don’t know why I thought I WOULD) the other is another typical wheeler scene, and showed me I’m way too impatient and heavy handed. Watercolor takes patience. Bleh. Still, it came out cute. Of the two, which one do you like better?

Day 31: watercolor and pencil studies.

A full month already!! I am 1/12th of the way to my goal. I’m amazed by how much I have learned in just a month. Mostly from youtube tutorials. And I’m back today with another two youtube studies… one watercolor ocean scene, and one water droplet pencil study. Definitely didn’t want to post the droplets, I even tried them three times. First with charcoal on toned paper. Then on pencil on white paper. Then pencil on toned (posted) Well, I’ll keep trying. And while the watercolor was fun to do, I’m not crazy about it either…  but hey I can’t just post stuff I like, right?

Day 30: a watercolor technique

Following a youtube tutorial about two toned edges, by Scarlett Damon, I practiced using two colors to create an edge without outlining. Each of these shapes was painted with just two straight washes, the second pushing the first outward.

Using what I learned there, I tried to copy a leaf of my own, which I had found walking Emmett. (More about Emmett at Allthecrazyworld.blogspot.com) I had some problems with it, but am satisfied with my end result, and feel good about the technique.
