Thirty More Everyday Sketches (2)

Santa took an adorable selfie with Ellis at the Christmas in July event we hosted last month at the Chick-fil-A Virginia Beach Blvd. There were a ton of great moments I could have chosen to sketch, but this was a highlight for me. 🙂

Thirty Days of Everyday Life, Day 10: Work and Watercolors

Today I started prepping supplies for Monday’s Pre Cow Day Story time craft, cow headbands the kids can wear for Chick-fil-A’s Cow Appreciation Day event Tuesday. (Free food!)

Pardon my strange looking kid. That’s what I get for quick sketching without a pencil. The reference photo was pretty adorable…

I also received some more paints in the mail from Marlette Art on Etsy… Hunter Marlette makes lovely paints, bold and easy to rewet. (look how dark that dioxazine violet is?!!) I talked about these paints a week or two ago… if you like shimmery colors, I highly recommend his Mica Set,  if you can get your hands on it. They are very sparkly, much more than my others, even my finetec set. Large bits of mica in them, it seems to me. I’m having a lot of fun with them!

Hunter is in North Carolina and makes his own paints. You have to catch them as they are available, but I don’t think you will regret the purchase. In fact, he offers quin gold made from the original pigment quinacridone gold, not available any more for purchase, and THE most gorgeous sap green I’ve seen, made with that pigment as well. His quin gold is an ‘earthier’ version of quin gold when compared to Daniel Smith’s, which is a brighter yellow, but I like it very much. I don’t know if you can really see the colors here, but I’ll try to show you what I mean.

I have several brands of handmade watercolor paints I love, and occasionally recommend here, but I think these are my favorite. ( SO FAR. I do love them ALL, and have favorite colors in each which I can’t find elsewhere.)

Any day I open my mailbox and find a parcel of paint inside is a good day, as far as I’m concerned.

April 20: Cow paper doll accessories

So, SERIOUSLY, April 9th was my last post??? Good grief. No wonder I’ve been feeling stressed. I did some playing around with paint late last week, which I didn’t post, but this week I’ve done NOTHING, and been irritated with myself for it. I want to say I’ve been working too much. And I HAVE. But honestly I have also binge watched the new Lost in Space Netflix series so… yeah. Choices. And moderation. I do poorly with either.

Yesterday I completed an outfit for the paper doll I drew last month for a children’s event at Chick-fil-A. We are having a beekeeper come in tomorrow to talk with the kids about, well, BEES, and keeping them. Among other things. So The Cow now has a lovely beekeeper’s suit. Woo-hoo! Not exactly fine art, but really fun to draw anyway.

Remember this Cow paper doll?

Now he (??) has a St Patrick’s Day outfit and a beekeeper’s suit. We may need to develop the wardrobe a bit. I’m thinking a dress for Mother’s Day and a suit for Father’s Day. After all… a cow is obviously a She. Yet we often refer to this one as a He. And the kids can dress him/her however they like, and pretend it is male or female or neither or both…. Ooooh, I think I’ll make some superhero cow clothes as well!!! (Hey maybe that’s what I’ll make for Mother’s Day…) Wonder Woman for Mother’s Day and Superman for Father’s Day??

Mon 02/02/18: valentine coloring page

A work project… A Valentine coloring page for us to use during storytime… the kids can color them and cut them apart. The last one will have a coupon on it for free food ( I guess that goes to their favorite Valentine!) All of them say Chick-fil-A Virginia Beach Blvd on them, but I can create something similar for your business if you are interested… contact me!
