Painting “Loosely” (Radishes)

This idea came from a video from LazyWonderBrush on YouTube. These radishes used Daniel Smith colors, Green Apatite Genuine (one of my favorites… amazing granulation!), Quinacridone red, carbazole violet, and a little Nickel Azo Yellow. All the Amazon links are there… these are basic colors, very useful, so I linked the larger size tubes because they are such a better deal per ounce. (Oh, there was a bit of Sap Green as well… a beautiful ‘convenience’ color)

Those little dots in the leaves come from the genuine green apatite.

Day 270, 271 (Thurs Fri 9/28 and 9/29) watercolor

I really miss painting, but just haven’t made the time for it lately, so I spent three brief periods the past few days practicing leaves and colors. The finished painting is a hideous mess of a practice page, but I post it confidently because I learned several things about the colors and mixing and the overall process, so I feel good about the time spent on it! (not as good as if I liked the picture but still really good… advancing in knowledge is a good feeling. It feels like time invested instead of wasted.) Plus… it was fun and relaxing to play with color. I will try more leaves.

The next 6 weeks will be busy as we open a new business… I’m not going to beat myself up over missing a few days in my challenge, if I am too tired or busy, but I’m also not going to allow myself to use it as an excuse to just give up.

Day 226 (Mon Aug 14) watercolor hummingbird sketch (1)

From a video tutorial on youtube by lazywonderbrush… I did mine a little differently, playing around with it (which I liked). But my poor little birdie is a bit chubby… he can barely fly! I need more work with her technique but I really enjoy it.

Day 27: Old door study, watercolor sketch

Following a tutorial by Peter Sheeler, around 12:30 am I came up with this watercolor sketch. It isn’t perfect, but I learned several skills from it, and am pleased with the results.
