under-water-color 3/28/2018

Several days ago I posted a watercolor exercise from the youtube channel maremismallart, watercolor staining technique (I think that’s what she calls it. It seems more like a “puddle method” to me) Wet the surface of the paper… apply watercolor, watch it run and creep and puddle. When it is dry, sketch an image into it. I LOVE this method. It is really fun and relaxing, and perfect when I can’t think of something to paint. (Also… it really shows off those creeping tendrilly attributes of my QoR paints.)

So I began with this:

I came up with this:

Big lacy seahorse, coral, seaweed, three little strange looking fish. I also thought about a dragon, and a lady tending flowers… and aliens. What would you have drawn?

Wed 2/28/18 more stolen watercolor ideas

I stole this adorable idea for an entry in my watercolor journal from this blog, “Karijn’s Watercolors”…     her people are so cute, and what an original idea.

I hope she won’t mind. Not only is it not my idea, I copied her sketch nearly exactly… (with small changes)… then did the painting in a similar manner as well (again with some differences, but minor)

I had to do this one after I saw it because my granddaughter spelled F-I-S-H for me tonight for the first time ever, and I promised I’d do a painting of a fish. Perfect timing!

Day 139 (Fri 5/19) unfinished koi sketch

I hate to post something unfinished. But… I’m happy with my sketch. I’ve drawn my koi fish, and hopefully will get them painted tomorrow or Sunday. No more time today! Well that’s the point of this year I guess… to show myself that even when there are lots of other obligations, I can still make time for art. Or whatever else is important to me.
