Paint Nite! Acrylic flowers

Last night I went to a Paint Night event at a local pizza place, Spaghetti Eddie’s. (First… I hadn’t been there for a while, and may I say the pizza was fabulous. Yum.) We all painted our own version of the same flower under the direction of the event coordinator, Makayla.

Being someone who has trouble coming up with ideas, I’m teaching myself to paint by copying others, and I was surprised by how varied our paintings were. My scope of imagination is narrow when it comes to painting (so far) and it is hard for me to go outside the lines, so to speak. But it wasn’t hard for any of my family! I think these four together on a single wall would make a beautiful grouping!

If you haven’t tried Paint Nite, I recommend it, whether you have ever painted before or not. It isn’t about the finished product, it’s really about enjoying yourself. It’s a fun, relaxing evening.

I decided to hang mine, at least temporarily! I hope they all did. 🙂

May 6, 2018: Tulip sketch (ink)

From the photo I used a week or so ago to do this watercolor sketch:

My more detailed pen sketch, to which I will add color:

(using a Uniball Micro Deluxe .5mm pen… love this pen 🙂 Prices Vary at Amazon, so shop around a bit, but this is currently the best price.

April 29, 2018 Tulips? More QoR and EEM paint play

I saw these beautiful tulips yesterday at a big annual yard sale we attend each year in historic Hilton Village:

And came up with this little sketch based loosely on them:

A few things I don’t like much about this, but I still love the way the QoR paints inspire play, and the lovely granulation coming from the tiny addition of EEM’s ‘Tia’. (See my previous several posts for more about Eventually, Everything Mixes watercolor paints.)

April 27: still playing with EEM paints… more flowers (sort of? It started as flowers)

Today I used a couple of QoR colors with the handmade EEM paints. I love the combination of dispersion and granulation…

Ohhh, that lovely QoR dispersion… this brown was just the tiniest dot of color added on top of the wet EEM paint, ‘Tia’.

Look at this intense granulation, from the little dabs of ‘Tia’ dropped in here and there.

Yum.

A Quick QoR Watercolor Scene (4/9/2018)

My tape tore the bottom of the paper off… even though I first put it on my shirt to make it less adhesive! I may need to find different painter’s tape.

This was just a quick fun low-pressure scene. I added little flowers with a white gel pen and with “fluorescent chartreuse Golden High Flow Acrylics” (only because both were right there on my desk and readily accessible!) Not much to it, but fun to do!

“Breathe Deeply the Laughter of Flowers” (old art)

Old art… not like ‘vintage’, or ‘masters’, but my own, ‘previously done’ art. A nice big page of cheap paper with some kind of black pen, drawn several years ago.

(But actually MY OWN ART, not copying someone else’s art to learn!)

Wed Jan 31, 2018 watercolored ink drawing

I received a set of sample dots of Da Vinci watercolor paints so tried them out on the drawing I posted Sunday:

I had trouble with some of the colors muddying as I tried to mix them. Otherwise enjoyed using these. I don’t like them better than what I currently have but am glad to have tried them.

Day 301 (Sun Oct 29th) -I’m back!

WELL… I haven’t posted since day 291… although I have made a sketch or two since then, nothing worth noting. I tried a couple Peter Sheeler tutorials one evening, and simply didn’t have a moment after that. We have been massively overwhelmed with our restaurant opening. I thought I’d manage to sneak 5 minutes of art in each day, but I had no idea how exhausted I’d be or how many 18 hour days I’d be trying. I feel like, artistically speaking, October has just been wasted. But we worked hard and the restaurant is on its way now, fully born, and I will have a little of my time back.

But when I picked up a pen today I found myself without inspiration. Or even the desire to sketch. It was a weird feeling. My studio is a wreck, as I have just tossed things in there and shut the door, so I couldn’t even go in there to sit. I watched a few a few artsy videos from vloggers I follow, and tried something quick…. really I think I’m still just sleepy. So here is my sad attempt at day 301 which really ISN’T day 301 of drawing… but is day 301 of the challenge.  And hopefully over the next week something will inspire me.

Day 212 (Monday July 31) watercolor flowers at the new outlet mall

A quickly done sketch. Sorry for the late post, I didn’t get it in before midnight. I’ll do a more detailed one tonight. Busy busy busy right now with work, and it’s getting harder to make myself keep up!
