Day 99 (Sun April 9) butterfly

Oooh, I love this one. Another Peter Sheeler tutorial. Definitely more my style than the past several days. When I’m washing watercolor over, I generally use the pen Sheeler recommended, the Uniball Deluxe Micro Pen. It is an inexpensive pen with waterproof ink, and a nice steady flow. (a three pack for under $7 on Amazon) I assumed I’d need to use expensive art pens so it was a nice surprise to see how well these work. I really love them. Great for sketching and for everyday writing!

Day 77: (sat 3/18) watercolor line drawing using two colors

Another of Peter Sheeler’s sketches. Too often I overwork parts. I like these studies with only two or three colors. I’m hoping to fill my sketchbook quickly because I’ve already found the next book I want to try! Art is all about shopping for me, apparently.

Day 57: (Sun 2/26) watercolor

Another Peter Sheeler tutorial. These tiny sketches are helping me. I can see improvement happening, although I still don’t control the paint and water like I mean to. If you want to practice some watercolor or line drawing skills, check out his youtube channel!

Day 45: (Tues) watercolor (Peter Sheeler tutorial)

Still on our business trip. This is small… just a few inches wide. Took me WAY too long. I still have to force the paint, really. When will I learn to direct it??? It looks so simple in the videos. Also… my sky is GREEN. No. Just no.

Day 34: more watercolor practice

I followed two more tutorials… one offered some basic tree hints (which I expected I’d already know, but didn’t. I don’t know why I thought I WOULD) the other is another typical wheeler scene, and showed me I’m way too impatient and heavy handed. Watercolor takes patience. Bleh. Still, it came out cute. Of the two, which one do you like better?

Day 28: another Sheeler watercolor lesson

I’ve never thought myself able to paint things like this, and it’s very different from my usual style, so am pretty excited to post today’s art, courtesy of another Peter Sheeler tutorial. This is from a photo he took of the Gooderham Building in Toronto. If I take mine independently and don’t compare it to his, I’m very pleased.

Micron pen .005, Winsor and Newton ultramarine blue, burnt sienna, and sap green, Derwent water brush 2, on Arches hot pressed 140 lb paper.
