Day 248 (Tues Sept 5) Giraffe ATC

The beginning of one anyway. Haven’t decided where to go with it yet. Front and back pictured.

I used this Uniball Deluxe Micro pen .5, be sure to get black as there are other colors of ink. The ink is waterproof and goes on smoothly. I paint right over it. Right now it is a little over $5, sometimes it is less (sometimes more!) on Amazon… I’ve purchased a set of three previously but couldn’t find it tonight. Only a set of 12, but that was close to $24. In the past I’ve used different width Micron pens instead, and I was really surprised and pleased with how well this worked. I’m thinking maybe I can consider eliminating a few of my extraneous supplies (ARE any art supplies ever really extraneous???? My addiction says no. But yes, yes they are and I need to admit it.)

Day 247 (Mon Sept 4) finished ATC set

I forgot to finish these, and left the masking fluid on one for several days (it should come off within 24 hours) It still removed easily and did no damage. It is that Molotow masking pen, 2mm… (link here)… and does really well on tiny spaces.

Remember, and ATC (artist trading card) is 2 1/2 ” x 3 1/2 “… a very small space for painting a lot of detail. How many watercolored ATCs do you think are equal to a set of hand knitted or crocheted fingerless gloves?? It’s a swap, and I feel like 4 is not nearly enough.

Day 245 (Sat Sept 2) more sketching my backyard

My back steps seem to like the natural look. And… Virginia Creeper is hardy.) I like sketching without a pencil because you just have to live with proportional imbalances, and see them as part of the beauty of your work. Or something.

Day 244 (Fri Sept 1)

Sitting outside with my dog on the first real fall-feeling afternoon, so I sketched what I could see. Yes, that is a HUGE hummingbird at the top… hes just closer to me. We have so many … we have a charm, a troubling, a hover of hummingbirds (I googled words used for a group of hummingbirds… I don’t know if they are real but I like them all) I also sketched the pot that holds my fairy garden… which is mostly now some derelict green onions , a bit of clover, and some low thyme you cant see in the sketch. I hope to paint these in another day. One day soon I’m going to start spending whole days on art…

Day 239 (Sun Aug 27) I can’t paint dogs

I’m not giving up. But, I’m giving up for now. Too many fails in one day. (And the bottom left corner, the best of the bunch and the first attempt from a month ago… even that one doesn’t look like the dog I was painting, although I still love the eyes and nose.)
