Unfinished, but still I LOVE them. I’m doing these FOR someone and really almost wish they were mine to keep 🙂 I hope she will love the finished product. I have to do a series for her. I think I will stick with this style.

A 365 day art project… one drawing a day
Unfinished, but still I LOVE them. I’m doing these FOR someone and really almost wish they were mine to keep 🙂 I hope she will love the finished product. I have to do a series for her. I think I will stick with this style.

A quick sunflower sketch (because all I ever have time for any more is quick!) for a card… I hope to add a little color tomorrow.

Just practice in sketching figures. I do think I’m better than I was in January. I took a lot of photos of the band. I was in the marching band in high school. We really STUNK, but it still is a good memory.
Trombonists waiting beside the field for their first half time show of the season…
Football players and a cheerleader. I really like the boy with the camera…
Okay yesterday I did not post. I was busy all day AND all evening with work… but I did begin a new treehouse ATC (or two) before midnight struck on the clock. And today I am finishing them. However… I don’t wish to post them yet, because the recipient will see them. And I feel like at least SOMETHING in her package should be a surprise. And I don’t want to just skip another post. So today I will post a copy of an entry that I did last year for a journal partner, who also did one for me. The assignment was to choose a quote from a list we had agreed upon, and illustrate it somehow.
It reminds me that I miss doing these! (both the journals, and the pen art) The lettering was quickly and imperfectly scribbled, but I can’t remember why I didn’t take the time to do it right… maybe I have just raised the bar that much for myself this year? I think I may have copied (or mostly copied) a famous woodcut for this. I was very into Rene Quillivic at the time and drew several of his pieces of art. (Some people think that’s wrong, but I think that’s a good way to develop skills.)

My back steps seem to like the natural look. And… Virginia Creeper is hardy.) I like sketching without a pencil because you just have to live with proportional imbalances, and see them as part of the beauty of your work. Or something.

A few of my best loved kitchen tools. I’d like these sketches better if I’d used a pencil first, but I used my new Platinum Carbon Desk Fountain Pen (extra fine)Â and was determined to just quick-sketch them in. This was a fun page to do! Â I love this ink. And at under $10, the pen is worth a try. It uses Platinum Carbon ink cartridges, but the ink is available in a bottle as well. It’s a nice dark black, safe for fountain pens (or so I keep reading!), and waterproof!

Yep, that’s my granddaughter! She can push herself now, and is very pleased with that!

I really like these.
I saved the best for last (in my opinion.) So read all the way through.
I colored in one of Day 21’s drawings. It wasn’t my favorite drawing, and I think it does look better with color. Maybe? I learned today that the pink salt in my grinder doesn’t lift paint the same as our regular table salt. Because of the type of salt? I doubt it. I suspect it was just ground too fine. Hard to remove once dried. I had to scrape it off. But I still like what it did in the background. Also, I tried the masking fluid and really liked it. Dipped my brush in soap first, and had no trouble removing the fluid from the brush afterwards.
I did this dandelion a few days ago and didn’t like it enough to post it. But that’s the wrong attitude!
And the bird was yesterday. I copied a page from my devotional (thanks, Rachael!!) but mine ended up bloodied looking, and his beak, oh poor guy. But even with his faults, I love him. He’s better than I thought I’d do. I gotta learn to do it without COPYING.
PS: I’ve now finished two full art journals!!! (well, sketch books) A huge accomplishment for me. I generally do a few pages, and put it aside. To fill up two (even small) books makes me feel really good.
