Day 324 (Tuesday Nov 21) still not finished

Still not finished with yesterday’s piece… getting close, though. Leaves are so relaxing and pleasant to work on. I think I might like it better in black and white, but I’ve promised this person a PAINTED series, and I do like how it is turning out.

Day 323 ( Mon Nov 20) unfinished leaves

Unfinished, but still I LOVE them. I’m doing these FOR someone and really almost wish they were mine to keep 🙂 I hope she will love the finished product. I have to do a series for her. I think I will stick with this style.

Day 312 (Thurs nov 9) art?

Well, it’s SOMEBODY’S art, a pre-drawn postcard, and I colored it in, which took longer than I guessed it would. I use these Marco raffine colored pencils. The set I have linked is 72 pencils for under $14… there’s also this set of 48 AND a pencil pouch,  for under $10!!! I have the set of 48, (without a pouch) but for the price I’d get the 72 now. I don’t have more expensive colored pencils so can’t compare them, although I have caran d’ache watercolor pencils which I ADORE, and these feel similar to the caran d’ache to me. (these are NOT watercolor pencils)

I got my set about two years ago, I think, and assume the formulation is the same. The packaging hasn’t changed. Mine are soft and vivid and layer nicely … I REALLY like them, and when I’m tempted to get a more expensive brand I stop myself, remembering how much I actually enjoy these. Anyway, if you decide to try them yourself, it isn’t a huge investment, and I’d like to hear someone else’s opinion. I’d DEFINITELY buy these for older kids or someone just trying out colored pencils (like me) instead of crayola or any less expensive, or even some MORE expensive brands.

Day 301 (Sun Oct 29th) -I’m back!

WELL… I haven’t posted since day 291… although I have made a sketch or two since then, nothing worth noting. I tried a couple Peter Sheeler tutorials one evening, and simply didn’t have a moment after that. We have been massively overwhelmed with our restaurant opening. I thought I’d manage to sneak 5 minutes of art in each day, but I had no idea how exhausted I’d be or how many 18 hour days I’d be trying. I feel like, artistically speaking, October has just been wasted. But we worked hard and the restaurant is on its way now, fully born, and I will have a little of my time back.

But when I picked up a pen today I found myself without inspiration. Or even the desire to sketch. It was a weird feeling. My studio is a wreck, as I have just tossed things in there and shut the door, so I couldn’t even go in there to sit. I watched a few a few artsy videos from vloggers I follow, and tried something quick…. really I think I’m still just sleepy. So here is my sad attempt at day 301 which really ISN’T day 301 of drawing… but is day 301 of the challenge.  And hopefully over the next week something will inspire me.
