Day 256 (Wed Sept 13) still sketching

That’s it so far… only one! Another fan (or two) at the football game Friday night. Her head’s a little small, but I’m happy with the pair. Still using my Uniball Micro Deluxe .5 pen, black ink, Follow this link and go to More Buying Choices… I found a three pack for $4.80, shipping included! I’m ordering right NOW. This price may not last. I love using this pen for sketching on the go.

Day 255 (Tues Sept 12) more football sketches

Just practice in sketching figures. I do think I’m better than I was in January. I took a lot of photos of the band. I was in the marching band in high school. We really STUNK, but it still is a good memory.

Trombonists waiting beside the field for their first half time show of the season…

Football players and a cheerleader. I really like the boy with the camera…

Day 252 (Sat Sept 9) Determination

Okay yesterday I did not post. I was busy all day AND all evening with work… but I did begin a new treehouse ATC (or two) before midnight struck on the clock. And today I am finishing them. However… I don’t wish to post them yet, because the recipient will see them. And I feel like at least SOMETHING in her package should be a surprise. And I don’t want to just skip another post. So today I will post a copy of an entry that I did last year for a journal partner, who also did one for me. The assignment was to choose a quote from a list we had agreed upon, and illustrate it somehow.

It reminds me that I miss doing these! (both the journals, and the pen art) The lettering was quickly and imperfectly scribbled, but I can’t remember why I didn’t take the time to do it right… maybe I have just raised the bar that much for myself this year? I think I may have copied (or mostly copied) a famous woodcut for this. I was very into Rene Quillivic at the time and drew several of his pieces of art. (Some people think that’s wrong, but I think that’s a good way to develop skills.)

Day 250 (Thurs Sept 7) Mail Day!

Getting my mail ready to go out always takes longer than I think it will… no such thing as a plain boring letter! So I’m counting my five address labels as today’s art project. (I tried to match them to the theme of what was inside, where I could.)

Day 249 (Wed Sept 6) Geometric Giraffe ATC

So I finished the giraffe ATC. I don’t know about adding any other elements. Maybe a 3d leaf or something, otherwise it’s done. I also played around with some new waterproof ink that arrived today and a couple of fountain pens. I’ll discuss them more later. I have spent a long time looking for good waterproof fountain pen inks and pens, and am hoping I’ve found them. (I don’t know if anything can beat my Uniball Micro Deluxe, though, for either reliability or convenience. Or for the look of the ink itself)

Day 248 (Tues Sept 5) Giraffe ATC

The beginning of one anyway. Haven’t decided where to go with it yet. Front and back pictured.

I used this Uniball Deluxe Micro pen .5, be sure to get black as there are other colors of ink. The ink is waterproof and goes on smoothly. I paint right over it. Right now it is a little over $5, sometimes it is less (sometimes more!) on Amazon… I’ve purchased a set of three previously but couldn’t find it tonight. Only a set of 12, but that was close to $24. In the past I’ve used different width Micron pens instead, and I was really surprised and pleased with how well this worked. I’m thinking maybe I can consider eliminating a few of my extraneous supplies (ARE any art supplies ever really extraneous???? My addiction says no. But yes, yes they are and I need to admit it.)

Day 247 (Mon Sept 4) finished ATC set

I forgot to finish these, and left the masking fluid on one for several days (it should come off within 24 hours) It still removed easily and did no damage. It is that Molotow masking pen, 2mm… (link here)… and does really well on tiny spaces.

Remember, and ATC (artist trading card) is 2 1/2 ” x 3 1/2 “… a very small space for painting a lot of detail. How many watercolored ATCs do you think are equal to a set of hand knitted or crocheted fingerless gloves?? It’s a swap, and I feel like 4 is not nearly enough.

Day 245 (Sat Sept 2) more sketching my backyard

My back steps seem to like the natural look. And… Virginia Creeper is hardy.) I like sketching without a pencil because you just have to live with proportional imbalances, and see them as part of the beauty of your work. Or something.
