Inktober Challenge Completed! (In November. Does that count?)

Inktober’s challenge completed in mid- November?? Well, I’m counting it. I didn’t complete the challenge as it was set forward, but I also don’t still have it hanging over my head, either unfinished, or worse:  totally unattempted!

Day 26 Dark:

My dogs are extremely dark. Blacker than this sketch portrays them, for sure.

Day 28 Ride:

Wouldn’t it be fun if we could still have a nice safe plastic Big Wheel as our ride??

Day 29 Injured:

Day 30 Catch:

Day 31 Ripe:

Ta-daa! Done. Somehow I do feel BETTER.

Inktober days 4-9 (daily journal)

Embarrassingly… I’ve done SIX JOURNAL ENTRIES since my last post. (????) I am halfway participating in the big Inktober challenge. I’m not following the suggested prompts, but I AM trying to practice with ink every single day in October. It’s really more of a journal challenge for me.

These days were painted in with QoR watercolors. To be honest, they worked fine, but I enjoyed using the EEM handmade paints (Eventually, Everything Mixes) better, from the previous week’s pages. Except QoR’s sap green which is QUITE lovely. Seriously. I like it. Might just be out of practice with QoR? Or maybe… I haven’t used them in so long, I simply like the other brands better now. (Daniel Smith, Schmincke, M Graham, EEM) Mostly, I am addicted to THEM ALL.

MI did the sketch on the left Saturday. I hated it, and tried the one on the right from the same photo on Monday… much improved! The second one isn’t quite right either but significantly closer. I didn’t want to post the first one but then I thought, sometimes it is nice to see other people’s messed up attempts!! Suggestions for improving my sketches of people, please???

Day 301 (Sun Oct 29th) -I’m back!

WELL… I haven’t posted since day 291… although I have made a sketch or two since then, nothing worth noting. I tried a couple Peter Sheeler tutorials one evening, and simply didn’t have a moment after that. We have been massively overwhelmed with our restaurant opening. I thought I’d manage to sneak 5 minutes of art in each day, but I had no idea how exhausted I’d be or how many 18 hour days I’d be trying. I feel like, artistically speaking, October has just been wasted. But we worked hard and the restaurant is on its way now, fully born, and I will have a little of my time back.

But when I picked up a pen today I found myself without inspiration. Or even the desire to sketch. It was a weird feeling. My studio is a wreck, as I have just tossed things in there and shut the door, so I couldn’t even go in there to sit. I watched a few a few artsy videos from vloggers I follow, and tried something quick…. really I think I’m still just sleepy. So here is my sad attempt at day 301 which really ISN’T day 301 of drawing… but is day 301 of the challenge.  And hopefully over the next week something will inspire me.

Day 291 (Thurs Oct 19) bunny!

We have a guest artist today, Ellis Dickson, 5 years old…. Superhero Fire-girl Mosquito… our Ellie-bellie! But enough introduction… on to the ART.

Ellis and I were drawing bunnies, and I was supposed to post this spectacular masterpiece YESTERDAY, and got bogged down with work instead. Apologies, sweet girl! Two I drew for her to color, but the other she drew by herself with just a dab or two from me! AND she used really special ARTIST pens, too. Pretty cool, huh? You can all say “I knew her when…”

And here is my quick sketch for the evening. I cant do more than three minutes but like we have said throughout  October… 3 minutes is better than no minutes! Inktober word for today “cloud”… and I thought about how much the silly drawn clouds look like trees…so there is my little weeping cloud tree.
