Inktober 2020 Day 27: Music

This one… well, it took me a few days to decide on something to draw. And then when I finished it first I loved it. For like, 2 minutes… AND THEN, I HATED IT. The longer I looked at it, the more the flaws stood out. And it wasn’t AT ALL what I’d pictured in my head. So… version 1:

A little Ricky Ricardo-ish. I still love it… if only my glasses proportions had been right. Or at least right-ish.

Version 2:

Well. You be the judge. I’m giving up at two, for now. Anyway, this one was more fun. Still having glasses trouble. I guess I’m proportionally challenged today. And… that’s okay!!

Uninspired Monday. And Tuesday. And Lesson Learned! 1/14 and 1/15

So Monday, after working, I came home and simply did not want to paint or draw or anything else. So I just wrote “Monday”. When I filled the background in with lines I was going to add a little color… and the ink I had used bled! Naturally (was my thought at the time) I added a little shiny gold “hello” just to show Monday it hadn’t beaten me.

Tuesday was even less inspired:

I had planned on Wednesday being the same, but I’ll do that one in another post, because I actually painted AN OBJECT. And journaled a few words about my day. Lesson learned? “If I don’t feel like it, just push through and come up with ANYTHING. I’ll be more inspired later.”

Day 280 (sun oct 8) Inktober “crooked”

I googled “sneaky thief” and found an online image (and couldn’t find the artist’s name…), copied the general body shape but somehow his neck turned out unbearably long. Still I actually like my version better, mistakes and all.

Here’s yesterday’s “shy” inked up…

Day 261 (Tues Sept 19) more people sketching

A quick sketch before my head hits the pillow… I REALLY just want to nod off, but… ONLY BECAUSE I’m accountable through this blog… I’m going to at least try something quick. I liked watching this dude walking down the street, huge bouquet in one hand, staring at his phone the whole time. He was like something out of a movie.

Day 260 (Mon Sept 18) dog walking

In Annapolis, I surreptitiously took a lot of shots of people that looked interesting to me. Not in a creepy way. Although it sounds like it now. This lady was on a corner across the street from us. Emmett was mesmerized by her companions. And I by her easy way of walking and the little slouch she had. She looked very urban to me.

Days 258 and 259 (Sat and Sun Sept 16 and 17) Annapolis, MD sketches

Annapolis is full of beautiful old architecture, and interesting people, including lots of soldiers from the Naval Academy. Yeah, my navy kid is a little short on top, but my book is angled slightly as well, so it may not be as bad as it looks. I love this long skinny building. It reminds me of London.

I brought my paints, but didn’t make time for them. It was all I could do to sketch something out before bed. I really should be painting a lot this month because next month is “Inktober” and I had hoped to play with ink all month. There’s a lot going on with work for the next two months… I’d hate for my project to fizzle out the last two months, and I don’t plan to stop, but I’m thinking my projects each day will be very quick. I’d like to end the (art) year with a bang, not a whimper, but even a whimper is still a noise, right?

Day 249 (Wed Sept 6) Geometric Giraffe ATC

So I finished the giraffe ATC. I don’t know about adding any other elements. Maybe a 3d leaf or something, otherwise it’s done. I also played around with some new waterproof ink that arrived today and a couple of fountain pens. I’ll discuss them more later. I have spent a long time looking for good waterproof fountain pen inks and pens, and am hoping I’ve found them. (I don’t know if anything can beat my Uniball Micro Deluxe, though, for either reliability or convenience. Or for the look of the ink itself)

Day 248 (Tues Sept 5) Giraffe ATC

The beginning of one anyway. Haven’t decided where to go with it yet. Front and back pictured.

I used this Uniball Deluxe Micro pen .5, be sure to get black as there are other colors of ink. The ink is waterproof and goes on smoothly. I paint right over it. Right now it is a little over $5, sometimes it is less (sometimes more!) on Amazon… I’ve purchased a set of three previously but couldn’t find it tonight. Only a set of 12, but that was close to $24. In the past I’ve used different width Micron pens instead, and I was really surprised and pleased with how well this worked. I’m thinking maybe I can consider eliminating a few of my extraneous supplies (ARE any art supplies ever really extraneous???? My addiction says no. But yes, yes they are and I need to admit it.)

Day 101 (Tues April 11) Another Lighthouse, Sheeler style

I guess I may end up working my way through each of Peter Sheeler’s tutorials. They are perfect for my 2017 project, and I feel very comfortable with the style. And they are small and fit well in my sketchbooks. I’ll add the link for the Uniball deluxe micro pen again from Amazon. This is the three pack. It is really nice for this (or regular writing) and SO affordable. I love my special art supplies… but this pen is probably one of my favorite finds. This micro deluxe, also here in a set of 12 for $20, specifically says waterproof, and I haven’t tried the regular, so I don’t know about it
(although it says the regular protects against water, fraud and fading).

(In case you’d like to try it, this is a link to a set of 12 for $5…  the regular uniball micro, not the deluxe. I have only used the deluxe so far, listed further up, and love it, but I may try the regular since it is SO affordable, and compare sometime. If it is waterproof and fade proof, and creates a nice line, that’s all I’m really looking for.)
